Peacemaking Women: Biblical Hope for Resolving Conflict - Barthel, Tara Klena, and Judy Dabler. Baker, c2005. 348p. $14.99, Paperback. ISBN 0801064953. 248.8’43 Christian women—Religious life. Female friendship—Religious aspects—Christianity. Interpersonal relations—Religious aspects—Christianity. Peace—Religious aspects—Christianity. Conflict management—Religious aspects—Christianity.

Women often have conflicts in their lives. In three sections, the authors identify “Conflicts with God” (thinking about God, idolatry, suffering), “Conflicts With Others” (romantic love, families, the church, female leaders with powerful personalities), and “Conflicts Within” (shame, depression, fear). The authors share their own personal stories and the stories of others. They use Scripture as their guide in suggesting ways to achieve peace.

This book is easy to read if sometimes a little “preachy.” A deep faith in God and reliance on the Gospel in seeking solutions to conflict are recommended throughout.

Each section concludes with questions for reflection, a “praying scripture,” and recommended resources for further study. The book would be quite appropriate for discussion by a Christian women’s study group.
