Young adults are confronted with many pressures. They facenew and complex issues and sometimes need simply to put a label on what they are experiencing so they can seek help. The second edition of this volume is a comprehen- sive guide to a wide variety of topics. Some of the topics covered are mental and emotional health, mood and anxiety disorders (depression, seasonal affective disorder, anxiety, panic, and fears), behavioral, personality, and psychotic disorders (eating disorders, personality disorders, psychosis, and schizophrenia), getting help for mental illness (selecting a therapist, medications, and alternative approaches), and other issues such as learning disabilities, bullying, dating violence, abuse, and suicide.

Each section defines terms, provides examples of symptoms, offers suggestions on how to handle difficult situations, and gives advice about when to seek help from parents or medical professionals. Sidebars contain updated materials and quick checklists. Also included is a directory of mental-health organizations with addresses, phone numbers, Web sites, and e-mail addresses. The additional references and index are also useful.

This book is a much-needed reference for congregational libraries. Life is tough for young adults. We need to keep them informed and supplied with the most current research to help them cope and get help when needed.
