The Story of Easter - Doyle, Christopher, and John Haysom. Concordia, c2005. 29p. $12.99, Hardcover. ISBN 0758608373.
232.96 Easter. Jesus Christ
With its classic illustrations on each page and 9 X 10 inch picture book format, The Story of Easter appears to be just for children. In truth, it has appeal for all ages. The story is told in a simple, straightforward manner, beginning with a brief recap of Old Testament times when God created Adam and Eve. Most of the book tells of many of Jesus’ acts as described in the Bible, such as his washing the feet of his disciples and events before and after his death on the cross.
The style captures the spirit of each event. Example: “The cheering grew louder and children craned their necks to see. In the distance dust rose under trampling feet. Shawls and cloaks were laid on the road… ‘Look! Jesus is here!’ They cheered and shouted ‘Hosanna!’ Another example: “Suddenly there was a mighty crash! Coins, pens and inkpots scattered in all directions. Tables were overturned and cages holding pigeons broke open as they hit the stone floor. All was chaos as birds and animals flew and scampered about.”
The format is attractive and easy to read. The content is appropriate for any church library.
